"Students Kart Design Challenge" is a competition initiated by “Society of Mechanical and Automotive Engineers” to bring, to enhance better engineering approaches and practices in graduate and diploma students. The objective of the competition is to design and fabricate a Go-Kart. The vehicle and associated documentation must be researched, designed and fabricated by the team members without direct /indirect involvement of professional engineers, faculty or professionals in racing. The challenge takes place in two stages; 1st is Virtual Round and 2nd is Final Round. This competition consists of several tests, which are to be performed by the vehicle, successfully clearing each test, and task decides their existence in the competition. All the participating teams are free to exhibit their creativity with few restrictions mentioned in the rulebook. This design challenge provides a platform to teams for showcasing their creativity and engineering skills in comparison to the teams from other universities/colleges across the country.
Its Not a race, its a national competation held between students to show their engineering skills in practise.
You are a team with a plan, divided by categories but with a common goal. Fabricate Go-Kart. Your teams perform engineering calculations to design and analyse every part of go-kart , make drawings , start manufacturing with the facilities avaialble at the college.

It was an amazing experience to view Students Kart design Challenge of the first season. Students participated with high enthusiasm and spirit. These programs not only help students understand better about their curriculum, but also give adequate scope of development in the field of automobiles and efficient usage of fossil fuels. Students inherit talents were tapped in the most appropriate manner. These programs to be continued in future too, so that it will help students in enhancing their skills and also the nation at large in the longer run. I wish Them a good luck in all their endeavors.

As one of the prize givers on stage at the Season 1 of SKDC, I had the privelage to observe and interact with students from many engineering colleges. I found the enthusiasm of the students is palpable and infectious. Students had mastered the various intricacies of a automobile design, solved real problems by putting together a racing kart at a shoestring budget. I felt no challenge was difficult for these youngsters. What they can achieve was proved. SKDC promoted by SMAE is the right step in that direction. I congratulate SMAE Team for taking this initiative and creating a platform for students to showcase their talents.

SKDC season 1 is the best event we've ever seen. The event has been conducted in a nice place and the pits and facilities were good. The encouragement done by Rohith sir has been the highlight of the event. Also the judges were kind and they were very informative, we have learnt a lot from them.

This is Sharathkumar meru from team combatant of Nalla Malla Reddy Engineering College, of the participants of SKDC season 1. As a part of our college, participating in such a knowledge seeking and outstanding event was very helpful to improve our skills. When coming to organization SMAE was very helpful before and during the event and by providing the call helpline round the clock to clear any sort of issues faced by participants. Hope in coming years we get lot more events and oppurtunities from SMAE so as to improve our skills and knowledge.
- Team Combatant.
We have gone through many events but the standard followed by SMAE was inspiring. Many other organizers don't care about the welfare of the participants but u did and proved yourself. Eagerly waiting for phase - 2.
- Team Piston Breakers.
SKDC doesn't just give you a race track to compete with others but it gives you a platform to compete with your knowledge and enchance it with learning together.
